THREE MEN who smuggled cannabis resin into Ireland inside their bodies have each been given a three-year suspended sentence and a 10-year deportation order.

Martin Vrbata (35), David Cerveny (24) and Grzegorz Poliszuk (35) told gardaí they had hoped to sell the cannabis resin pellets they had ingested for double what they paid.

Dublin airport Customs officers stopped the three men as they entered the State on October 5th and 6th last year. Each claimed they had been given money by third parties to finance their trip.

Cerveny, from the Czech Republic and Poliszuk, from Poland, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to importing €5,610 and €5,938 worth of cannabis resin.
