A British Midlands flight from London was forced to make an emergency landing at Dublin airport last night after the pilot reported smoke in the cockpit.

Flight BD133, from London Heathrow, had 94 passengers on board when it made an emergency landing shortly before 8.50pm.

A Dublin Airport Authority spokesman said the aircraft was given priority on the runway, and the emergency services were on standby as the plane approached Dublin airport.

The aircraft landed safely and was towed to the nearest disembarking point where passengers left the plane.

British Midlands confirmed today the plane had been examined by its engineers in Dublin.

However, a spokesman could not confirm if any fault had been found but said the aircraft was back in service.

An investigation by the Air Accident Investigation Unit of the Department of Transport is under way.
