Slow progress in Stormont talks

Irish Government sources reported slow but steady progress at the multi party talks in Stormont yesterday

Irish Government sources reported slow but steady progress at the multi party talks in Stormont yesterday. The parties dealt with a number of minor amendments to the draft procedural rules.

Although the DUP leader, the Rev Ian Paisley, publicly restated his party's determination to curb the powers of talks chairman, Senator George Mitchell, an Irish Government spokesman said the atmosphere at the session was "quite cordial".

Procedural amendments tabled by the DUP, UUP, SDLP and the Women's Coalition delegates will dominate today's agenda.
