A Sligo man arrested after a Gardai alert to police in Northern Ireland was charged today with having a gun under suspicious circumstances.

Mr David Lynch (36) was detained in Strabane, Co Tyrone where officers stopped a car.

They had been acting on information supplied by Gardai in Lifford, Co Donegal, just across the Border.

Mr Lynch, from Collery Drive, Cranmore was also accused of possessing ammunition and a knife, driving with excess alcohol and causing criminal damage to a cell in Strabane police station where excrement was allegedly smeared on the walls.

He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance on January 22nd.
