A German man caught with cannabis worth £145,000 has been jailed for six years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court

A German man caught with cannabis worth £145,000 has been jailed for six years by Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Roland Hain (40) with an address in the south of Spain, admitted importing the drug with intent to supply on February 5th. Two men living in the south of Spain, British national Roy Foster and Dutch national Jan August Neijen, were jailed for six years last month.

Det Garda Danny Kelly said when gardai searched a flat in Abbey Street they found 40 bars of cannabis on a couch - and Niejens had 18 bars A further Two bars were found in a hold-all bag he was carrying. Hain later admitted possession of all the drugs.

Mr Patrick Marrinan SC, defending, said Hain had no previous convictions and wasn't to be paid much money. He said Hain had lost his building job in Gibraltar after he mislaid his passport and had agreed to transport cannabis to Ireland because he was in financial trouble. Judge Kieran O'Connor said visitors were welcome but not if they were carrying "heinous substances".
