A man who committed a series of public-nuisance offences, including having sex on the street, vomiting in a video shop and damaging the door of an amusement arcade, was jailed for six months yesterday.

Derek McDonnell (23), of Shangan Avenue, Ballymun, also admitted assaulting a garda who intervened after he was spotted hitting two children in O'Connell Street.

Dublin District Court heard that he turned his attentions to two passers-by who had reported him for hitting his younger sisters.

Gardaí arrested him immediately and he struck one of the officers.

On March 24th, a garda saw him having sex with a woman in the North Lotts laneway off Bachelors Walk. He told the woman officer who arrested him: "It's none of your business."

In February and March he committed offences at two video shops in Phibsboro. He also cracked the glass of a door in a Marlborough Street amusement arcade when he kicked it after being told to leave.

The court heard that he was drunk when he committed most of the offences. He had two previous convictions.
