Mr Richard O'Brien (44), of St Mary's Villas, Kilsaran, Co Louth, was killed when he was hit by a car on the Dublin to Belfast road at Castlebellingham at 12.05 a.m.

Mr Peter Fox (19), of Kildangan, Tullamore, was killed when the car in which he was the front-seat passenger crashed at Arden Road, Tullamore, at 3.30 a.m. The driver, who was seriously injured, was taken to Tullamore General Hospital.

Mrs Anna Jameson (65) of Simmonscourt Terrace, Donnybrook, Dublin, was killed on the main Dublin-Wexford road near Rathnew at about 4.30 p.m. She had stopped her car on the roadside when driving towards Dublin, and was struck by a CIE bus as she was crossing to a food stall on the other side of the road.

A 13-year-old girl died after she was hit by a car at Clonboo, eight miles north of Galway city, at 7.30 p.m. A man who was driving the car was helping gardai with their inquiries.

A man was killed when the car he was driving went out of control near Kilnaleck, Co Cavan, at 6.30 p.m. No other vehicle was involved.

A man was killed when he was hit by a car at Parnell Road, Harold's Cross, Dublin, at 2.50 p.m. yesterday. His name has not yet been released.
