Yo! Sushi in London may attract the likes of Naomi Campbell, Robbie Williams and Annie Lennox but Dublin is fast developing a sushi culture of its very own, hence the arrival this week of Japanese beer. On Wednesday night, stylist Nadia Pfeiffer, Nora Lynch from Radio na Gaeltachta, and rock journalist Olaf Tyaransen gathered in the bar of the Fitzwilliam Hotel for the debut appearance of Asahi beer in Ireland. Currently among a number of Japanese beers making inroads into the Irish market, Asahi is set to be exclusively available through Dublin's soon-to-open conveyor belt sushi bar, Aya. More traditional in its outlook than many London sushi bars which are currently offering massage as you eat your dinner (possibly to alleviate the trauma of actually eating raw fish), Aya will also serve a number of non-sushi dishes for the more conservative palette. Furthermore, with its location opposite Brown Thomas, Dublin's fashionables won't have to travel too far for that post-Prada sushi-fix.
