Gardai are investigating a gun attack on a holiday home belonging to the Minister for Justice, Mr McDowell in Co Roscommon last weekend.

It is understood that a shotgun was fired at glass doors of the property in Lavagh, near Rooskey.

The house, which is still under construction, sits on a secure site in a remote area and gardai believe the perpetrator must have deliberately sought to fire at the house.

In has been reported in today's Irish Timesthat that gardaí have been assigned to the house in Rooskey and that Mr McDowell's personal security detail has also been increased.

Mr McDowell was involved in a legal dispute concerning the planning permission for the property. The High Court ruled that Roscommon County Council had acted outside its powers when it denied an extension of planning permission.
