LAGOS - Shell has shut down five pumping stations in southern Nigeria after an outbreak of inter-ethnic violence in the region. The stations, which produce 110,000 barrels a day, are at Nembe creek in Bayelsa state and were closed on Sunday after an armed group threatened personnel, a spokesman said.

Shell's oil production in Nigeria only returned to normal last week following its closure of wells during more than a month of bloody ethnic clashes in the southern Delta state.
