Newcastle captain Alan Shearer faces up to eight weeks of rehabilitation after a scan revealed he has chipped a bone in his ankle.
The 32-year-old announced yesterday that the injury - sustained against Sunderland on Saturday - had put an end to his season.
But there is no ligament damage, and Shearer is expected to be fit for the start of pre-season training.
