GARDAI detained a number of people in Dublin during the weekend in connection with their investigation into the murder of John Reddan, who was shot dead in the Blue Lion pub in Parnell Street last April.

A series of identity parades was held in Fitzgibbon Street Garda station yesterday.

The men who were arrested early on Saturday were held at Fitzgibbon Street and at Mountjoy Garda station. They were expected to be released last night and a file was expected to be forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Mr Reddan, in his mid 40s, was drinking at the Blue Lion on the evening of April 1st when a man walked through the lounge wearing a motorcycle helmet.

After removing the helmet in the pub's lavatory, he returned to the lounge and shot Mr Reddan in the head. He then threatened other customers before escaping.

Mr Reddan was well known in Dublin criminal circles and had connections with a number of criminal gangs. He is believed to have stabbed a man to death outside a disco in Coolock in April 1994 although he was never prosecuted for the crime.
