A man who came to Ireland from Nigeria as a student but stayed on illegally has been given a seven-year sentence for possession of more than €300,000 worth of cocaine.

Charles Opene (31), Riverwood Hall, Castleknock, pleaded guilty at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court to possession of the drugs for sale or supply at Curragh Hall Crescent, Tyrrellstown, on November 15th, 2007.

Two women, both originally from South Africa, have already received six-year sentences with one year suspended.

Judge Frank O’Donnell suspended the final year on condition that Opene is deported and does not return to Ireland for 15 years.
