Police said today a spate of violent deaths in Glasgow do not appear to be connected.

It came as officers launched a fifth murder inquiry in less than 48 hours.

Strathclyde Police said there appeared to be no link between the deaths of four men, aged between 19 and 38, in the east of Glasgow this weekend.

A police spokeswoman refused to comment on reports linking one of those killed to senior gangland figures in the city.
