THE six fishermen lost with the fishing trawler, the Carrickatine, which sank almost 10 weeks ago off Donegal, are to be formally buried at sea after the search for the 75 ft vessel is completed at the weekend. Arrangements are made for a private ceremony.

Since the boat and its crew went missing last November, the wreck has not been located despite a massive search. A number of fish boxes from the ill fated trawler came ashore on Tory island some time ago.

A spokesman for the Irish Marine Rescue Services confirmed yesterday that the search, involving helicopters, a Naval Service vessel and many small boats, covered 51,000 square miles of ocean, extending from Co Donegal to Co Clare. An underwater search covered 1,200 square miles.
