Michael Schumacher is seeking the lead in the World Championship this weekend when he heads back to Austria for the first time since last year's controversial win.

The German will line-up at the A1-Ring at Zeltweg - where he was gifted victory 12 months ago after Ferrari ordered Rubens Barrichello to move over - just four points adrift of McLaren's Kimi Raikkonen.

Schumacher has shrugged off his worst start to a Formula One season to get back on course for a record sixth drivers' crown with victory in the last two races.

Now the 34-year-old is determined to take the lead for the first time this season after another intensive week of testing in the F2003-GA in which he scored a debut victory in Spain last time out.

"We did a lot of work last week and accumulated promising data which means we can be optimistic about the Austrian GP," said Schumacher.

"Obviously, we want to reduce the gap still further or even better, to turn the situation around, which would be the ideal result."

Schumacher's victory at the A1-Ring last year - his first on the Austrian track, which has been booted off the calendar for 2004 - caused outrage at the time with the podium ceremony marred by booing and jeering from the crowd.

An embarrassed Schumacher pushed Barrichello, who had deserved the win, onto the top step of the podium and handed him the winners' trophy, for which the Ferrari team were fined.

Motor sport bosses also moved to ban team orders amid the fall-out which hit F1 badly last year.
