Clowning around may no longer be frowned upon in primary schools, provided it is exclusively through the medium of spoken Irish. Minister for Gaeltacht Affairs Éamon Ó Cuív has approved grant aid for a new circus skills training initiative, which will be run in primary schools throughout the State.

Lámchleasaíocht (juggling), amadántacht (clowning) and acrobatic skills are to be taught by the Dublin-based Down to Earth theatre company, The company has been given a €10,000 grant which will contribute towards the cost of workshops.

Heading the project will be Ariel Killick, who is one of some 50 Irish translators accredited by Foras na Gaeilge.
