A SCAFFOLDER who was “caught red-handed” transporting €407,000 worth of cannabis herb has been sentenced to five years at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Alan Boylan (25) drove a white Ford Transit van that contained eight boxes of the drug to Nevinstown Lane, Swords, and helped transfer them to a Ford Mondeo car.

Boylan of Faussaugh Road, Cabra, pleaded guilty to possession of 634kg of cannabis herb for sale or supply on September 1st, 2009, at Nevinstown Lane, Swords, Co Dublin.

Judge Martin Nolan said Boylan must have known that what he was doing was serious, as he was transporting a large quantity of cannabis herb. “It doesn’t appear he was the owner of the drugs or had a proprietary interest in the drugs, but he was transporting the cannabis herb from somewhere to where he was found by gardaí,” the judge said, before sentencing him to five years in prison.
