Budget airline Ryanair will expand operations at Shannon airport with two new routes to France and England, the company said today.

The low cost carrier will fly to Bristol and Nantes from November serving around 200,000 passengers.

The move brings the total number of destinations served by Ryanair from Shannon to 16. Michael O'Leary, Ryanair chief executive, said the expansion was part of steps to meet growing demand from tourists.

"The Shannon base has exceeded our expectations since its launch in May and has firmly established itself as one of the most important drivers of both tourism and the economy in the West of Ireland," he said.
