GAA:Declan Ryan has been appointed the new Tipperary senior hurling manager on a two-year contract, succeeding All-Ireland winning boss Liam Sheedy.

Ryan, a winner of  All-Ireland senior hurling medals in three different decades, will be joined on the management team by former Hurler of the Year Tommy Dunne and Thurles Sarsfields’ back-to-back county championship-winning manager Michael Gleeson.

Gleeson will remain with Sarsfields until their participation in the Munster and All-Ireland club competitions comes to an end.

“I think we have gotten the best three available men in the county,” said county board chairman Barry O’Brien this evening. “I compliment them for their bravery in taking on the job at a very tough time with Tipperary at the summit. They all have a long history of action in games and coaching.”
