The RUC has made an impact on the Internet by creating a "virtual museum", believed to be the first of its kind in the world. The real police museum, based in the RUC's Belfast headquarters, was photographed and the results were transferred on to the Internet by a Northern Ireland company which specialises in advanced computer technology.
"Surfers" can scan around the museum, which has exhibit dating back to 1812.
