A post-mortem is to take place today on the body of a pensioner who died following an attack at his home in Co Antrim yesterday.

The RUC have issued an appeal for information following the attack where Mr George Foster (82) and his wife Ena (78) were assaulted at their home in Manor Drive in Lisburn, Co Antrim, yesterday morning.

Two men wearing reflective jackets entered the couple’s home at about 10 a.m. The couple were assaulted before being held in an upstairs room while the men searched the house.

Mr Foster managed to escape but collapsed and died in a neighour's house as the police were being called.

It has emerged that two bogus callers paid a visit to the couple’s home last Thursday. The RUC have asked people who may have had similar callers to come forward.

The police have called on anyone who finds abandoned reflective jackets to contact them without touching the clothing. Investigators are also looking for information on a white saloon car with a Republic of Ireland registration, and for anybody who may have seen two men rush from 16 Manor Drive yesterday morning.

The attackers have been described as being of average height with short dark hair, one man had a moustache and the other was carrying a briefcase.
