RTE is to provide the fastest and most comprehensive general election coverage on television, radio, Aertel and the Internet, it claimed yesterday.

Questions and Answers will move to Sunday for the duration of the campaign. Prime Time will be broadcast four nights a week and will include a leaders debate in the final week.

On Radio 1, Morning Ireland will begin at 7.30 from Monday next, including two Saturdays.

Aertel will be offering more than 40 pages on both channels, including one for each constituency, and also an Election 97 web site, at http://election97.rte.ie.

Network Two will continue to run The Week in Politics at 7p.m. and the Nine O'Clock News on RTE1 will be extended each evening from Monday next.

Daily Record will concentrate on the campaign, and will also run on Saturdays from 5p.m. to 6p.m.

The station said that all the party leaders will be available on programmes including Saturday View, Today with Pat Kenny and News at One.

Radio 1 results coverage will begin on Saturday, June 7th, with Election 97 presented by Sean O'Rourke and Rodney Rice, continuing the following day and incorporating The Sunday Show.

Television election coverage will begin on RTE1 at 3p.m. on June 7th, presented by John Bowman, Eamonn Lawlor and Brian Farrell.
