Brazil and Inter Milan forward Ronaldo fell victim to

three armed carjackers who held him up and stole his BMW in Rio early this morning, according to Brazilian news reports.

Ronaldo, who is currently recuperating in an attempt to make a second comeback from injury, told Brazilian television that a car blocked him in front before the three heavily armed men forced him out of his car and drove off.

He added that one of the men recognised him and expressed "surprise" but "it was too late for them to go back on their actions," he said.

The player, who was not hurt in the incident, was driving to his home in Barra da Tijuca and was confronted in the chic area of Sao Conrado. His car was found by police an hour later close by.

Ronaldo made an appeal for the robbers to return his identity papers.
