A man was being detained by the Garda and two others were in hospital last night following an attempted robbery at the Coachman's Inn, near Dublin Airport, earlier in the day.

Gardai received a report of four men in balaclavas entering the premises at 9.20 a.m. The gang tied up staff in the kitchen but was forced to flee before taking any money from the premises.

Three of the gang left in a white Opel Calibra. The fourth man fled on a motorcycle in the direction of the East Link toll bridge. The motorcycle rider was carrying a rifle but dropped it as he passed over the bridge.

Shortly afterwards three men were arrested by gardai, who had pursued the car along the M50. One man was taken to Santry Garda station for questioning. Two others were being treated in hospital.
