A roadside bomb exploded in central Baghdad today, wounding at least five people and badly damaging a vehicle, witnesses and the US Army said.
In the northern Iraqi city of Mosul, insurgents fired two rockets at the city hall today, killing one civilian and injuring six other people including a child, police said.
Gunfire rang out after the Baghdad blast, which was strong enough to smash windows in nearby houses.
Colonel Shamil Ahmad, head of Mosul's city hall police department, said the rockets hit walls outside the hall at around 8:20 a.m. Irish time. A child, two policemen and three other civilians were injured in the attack.
He said at least three unidentified individuals launched two Katyusha rockets from a locally-made rocket launcher. Police found the launcher nearby. No one was arrested.
US-led forces in Iraq blame guerrilla attacks on Saddam Hussein supporters and Islamic militants. While the resistance is primarily Iraqi, U.S. officials say foreign fighters are increasingly involved in the insecurity prevailing across Iraq.
