A 29-year-old man accused of burglary from the five-star Merrion Hotel in Dublin last June was yesterday remanded in custody for a further three weeks.

Alejandro Cuenca, of no fixed abode, is suspected by gardaí of having provided them with a false identity. He is believed to be Juan Carlos Guzman Betancourt, a Colombian with a number of outstanding warrants for arrest in other jurisdictions.

Mr Cuenca has also been charged with three counts of using a stolen credit card to make a series of expensive purchases on June 16th .

At a brief hearing in Cloverhill District Court in Dublin yesterday, Garda Deirdre Conway, Harcourt Terrace, asked that Mr Cuenca be remanded for another three weeks.

This was to await directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Judge Patrick Brady granted the remand request and said the case would come before the court for directions on August 5th.
