Remains of murdered Offaly vet Catherine Gowing, who went missing on her way home from work, have been found at two sites in Wales three miles apart, Welsh police confirmed yesterday after forensic tests.
Human remains were found in a shallow pond in Sealand in north Wales by police last Wednesday after a tip-off from the public. Further remains were discovered two days later on the banks of the river Dee near Chester.
“The results have been passed to Catherine’s family,” said the officer leading the investigation into her murder, Det Chief Insp Mark Pierce.
“As you can imagine this is a very difficult time for them. The search for further remains and any evidence to assist this investigation continues.”
DCI Pierce has urged anyone who saw suspicious activity along Manor Road, Sealand, or on the river Dee to come forward quickly.
Clive Sharp (46), Bethesda, Gwynedd, has been charged with Ms Gowing’s murder. She worked for a veterinary practice in Mold, Wales, after she had trained in Hungary.
She was last seen before 9pm on October 12th, when CCTV cameras recorded her leaving a supermarket in Queensferry near her New Brighton home, carrying a takeaway pizza.
DCI Pierce appealed for any information regarding any sightings of her Irish-registered Renault Clio and a black Volvo belonging to Mr Sharp.
