Redundant staff at one of Electric World's Dublin outlets expect to receive outstanding overtime and holiday pay on Wednesday.

Staff who occupied the firm's shop at the Omniplex, Santry, from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m. on Saturday said they ended the occupation after receiving commitments from a senior management representative.

The company has closed its three Dublin stores with the loss of 73 jobs because of unsustainable trading losses, it said in a statement on Saturday. The other outlets are at The Square, Tallaght and Blanchardstown Shopping Centre. The Northern Ireland-based enterprise will retain its profitable Galway outlet.

Although a closure had been rumoured for some weeks, staff were surprised when management representatives arrived on Saturday evening to hand out P45 forms and a month's pay in lieu of notice.

Ms Jackie Harrison, an employee of the company in Santry, said yesterday the management team arrived at 4.50 p.m. and announced the store's immediate closure. Staff were offered the opportunity to apply for jobs in the company's Northern Ireland stores.

Ms Harrison said staff refused to leave until the senior management representative present agreed to meet the 18 redundant people at Santry on Wednesday and pay them for holidays, overtime and days they had worked on a time-off-in-lieu basis.

No comment was available yesterday from the company's Northern Ireland headquarters in relation to the commitments Ms Harrison said had been given on Saturday.
