A YEAR after delivering a record 18 puppies, German red setter Anny Holey was reunited with her litter at a party on Saturday.

Some 14 of her 17 surviving pups were brought together for the occasion in the northern city of Neubrandenburg with Anny and her owner, Gerd Holey.

"It was a great day for Anny, though we can't be sure if she recognised the dogs as her own offspring," said Mr Holey to The Irish Times. "All the owners are thrilled with their dogs. Three have already been put on show."

The Irish Timesfront page image of the litter caused a sensation in Ireland last year.

Mr Holey said he gave Anny her official name – the “Red Pride of Kylemore” – because he’d always felt a connection to the country, though he’d never been.

After the report appeared, Kylemore Abbey and local TDs got in touch promising support for a trip to Ireland for Mr Holey and his wife. Since then: nothing.

“We’ve still not been – money’s a bit tight – and we’ve not heard anything from Ireland,” said Mr Holey. “We don’t want to make a big deal of it. Ireland has enough problems of its own.”
