The Minister for Transport, Mr Brennan, this morning announced that the Government has given the green light for a major upgrade of the Red Cow roundabout on the M50.

The upgrade which Mr Brennan said would begin this year will cost approimately €600m.

The minister made the announcement at the Fianna Fáil Ard Fheis and said the upgrade would be completed within two years.

Mr Brennan said the Red Cow roundabout was the one element of the Luas system he was uncomfortable with and said the redevelopment would dramatically reduce the amount of traffic crossing the Luas lines at the start of the M50 motorway.
