Renewed confidence and optimism for Limerick "as major multinationals commit further resources to the city and county and Shannon and Garryowen maintain a local grip on Irish rugby" were referred to yesterday by the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, Ms de Valera.

She was formally launching Limerick Expo '98 Recruitment Fair at the city's university, which has as its theme "Living and Learning in Limerick".

The fair, which is being sponsored by Shannon Development, the Chamber of Commerce and local authorities in association with The Irish Times, offers over 2,000 job opportunities across a range of sectors from school-leavers to experienced skilled workers.

It also takes in cultural events and business promotions as well as a wide-ranging family fun entertainment programme in the city over this weekend.
