Wales and British Lions backrow Scott Quinnell is on the brink of announcing his international retirement according to reports today.
Quinnell, 30 has been struggling with a persistent knee injury which he sustained during the Lions tour of Australia in 2001.
Various British newspapers have speculated that Saturday's Test against Canada at the Millennium Stadium, where Quinnell is on the bench, could be the No 8's last appearance in a Wales shirt.
Quinnell, son of Wales great Derek, recently admitted that his body was "in bits" and the prospects of him maintaining fitness until October's World Cup in Australia appear slim.
Wales coach Steve Hansen, asked if Quinnell would make it to the World Cup, replied Thursday: "Who knows." And Hansen had said earlier in the week: "I can't answer the question of whether or not I think Scott will make it to the 2003 World Cup.
"There is no doubt he has got a problem with his knee and as long as we can manage that and he can train to a high level then it will be fine."
The Llanelli forward had an operation after being forced out of the Lions third Test against Australia.
But the former Wigan rugby league player has had his apprarances for club and country restricted by injury since then.
If Quinnell plays against Canada, who were the opponents when he made his Test debut in 1993, it will be his 52nd Wales cap.
Next week Wales face New Zealand at the Millennium Stadium where a fit Quinnell would be a massive addition to their pack.
