Protest over 'super-dump'

Over 2,000 people carrying banners reading "Planners, Every Step You Take, Every Mover You Make, We'll Be Watching You" marched through Nenagh, Co Tipperary yesterday in protest against the proposed Silvermines super-dump.

the march was headed by the Silvermines Environmental Action Group, which lodged a letter of complaint against the development of the landfill with count secretary and acting county manager, Mr Risteard O Domhnaill.

Waste Management Ireland proposed to pump 1.6 million cubic meters of water from the open-cast mines and develop it as a a landfill.

It ahs applied to Tipperary North Riding County Council for planning permission for a landfill. A decision is due by the end of November.
