Advertising firm WPP posted a 14.5 per cent increase in full-year headline pre-tax profit today.

The world's second-largest advertising and marketing company said profit reached £766.3 million, with revenue up almost 10 per cent to £5.9 billion. Like-for-like revenue rose 5.4 per cent.

Analysts had expected pre-tax profits of £761 million and revenues of £5.88 billion, with like-for-like revenue at 4.9 per cent.

WPP's third-quarter like-for-like revenue fell short of analysts' expectations and pushed its shares down at the time 5 per cent, but CEO Sir Martin Sorrell was confident that 2006 revenues would be "better than expectations", and that 2007 would be even stronger.

The company said like-for-like revenue growth had accelerated in the fourth quarter to 7.2 per cent.
