'Prince William' to visit Irish ports

The rigged tall ship Prince William will visit Cork and Dublin this month.

The rigged tall ship Prince Williamwill visit Cork and Dublin this month.

The ship will conduct a series of community visits, day sailings and a taster voyage to provide an insight into life on board and to give a hands-on chance to go to sea.

The first visit will be to Cork and Cobh harbours. The Prince Williamwill arrive from Falmouth on Friday, January 19th, operating day sails for that weekend.

Open to anyone aged between 18 and 69, the day sails offer the chance to climb the rigging, to go "up and over", hoist the sails, haul on the ropes and take the helm.

Prince Williamthen sails from Cork to Dublin on a three-night taster voyage offering more of a hands-on experience of sailing.

She arrives in Dublin on Thursday, January 25th, with a tall ship schools and community open day the following day.

The Tall Ships Youth Trust works to assist the development of young people through the experience of sailing. More than 3,200 young trainees sail with the trust each year.

Two day sails will take place in Dublin on Saturday and Sunday, January 27th and 28th, before the ship departs for Belfast. For further information log on to www.tallships.org
