The Catholic priest who left his Sligo parish a month ago to live with a separated mother of seven said his first Mass since he left last night in the house the couple now share after a local hotel refused him permission to use one of its rooms. He was joined by rebel Bishop Pat Buckley.

Father Sean Page's first mass since he joined Bishop Buckley's Oratory Society was due to take place in the Southern Hotel.

Management cancelled the booking saying it was understood the room was to be used for a meeting and not a Mass. A manager said the hotel did not want to get involved in controversy. About a dozen adults attended the service.
