English Premiership football clubs will be playing for a £50 million sterling pay day in the 2007/08 season thanks to a new global television contract.

The monies represent an increase of almost £20 million for the top club over the amount won by champions Chelsea last year.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: "This deal really does take us on to another level. It means that the team at the top - who got £30 million last year - will get around £50 million, while even those at the bottom will receive about £30 million."

That near equality of remuneration is possible because of the new £625 million deal negotiated by Scudamore, adding to the huge pot already generated by existing domestic broadcast and internet contracts.
