A post-mortem was being carried out at Cavan General Hospital last night on Mrs Sheila Lynch (47), who was found dead in the bedroom of her Coothill home on Saturday evening. A man in his early 20s was arrested at the house and transferred from Garda custody to a psychiatric hospital in Cavan later on Saturday evening. It is understood that the man, whose identity is being withheld, has a history of mental illness.
It is understood that detectives who are investigating the case are not seeking any other person. Gardai were called to the house at 7.20 p.m. on Saturday and found the woman dead in her bed. It is believed she had died not long before.
