All options relating to the future of the Voluntary Health Insurance (VHI) will be considered, the Minister for Health and Children, Mr Cowen, said. "I do not have any ideological hang-ups that others seem to have. I am simply interested in providing the most competitive private health insurance we can from the VHI for its 1.4 million customers."
He was replying to the Labour spokesman on health, Mr Derek McDowell, who had asked if he believed the VHI needed to be restructured and if he was open to the option of selling it off.
