Opposition politicians have criticised a reported plan by Allied Irish Banks to appoint its chairman Dan O’Connor as executive chairman on a temporary basis. Labour finance spokeswoman Joan Burton said this would send out a message of “no change” in the banks and would be contrary to the principles of good corporate governance.

Independent Senator Shane Ross told the Seanad that the move defied all rules of good corporate governance.
