A suspect in the murder of the only journalist to be killed by paramilitaries in Northern Ireland has avoided police questioning by living outside the north.

As police revisited the scene of last year's murder of Sunday Worldreporter Martin O'Hagan, they confirmed that one of the main suspects in the killing had yet to be questioned.

Det Chief Insp Charlie Patterson said: "During the investigation, eight people have been questioned. One suspect still has to be located, but we believe him to be outside the jurisdiction.

"My officers have made numerous attempts to contact him." O'Hagan was shot dead in the street as he walked home on September 28th last year from the pub with his wife in Lurgan, Co Armagh. Loyalists were blamed for the attack.

It is believed the reporter was gunned down because he had got close to unmasking members of the Loyalist Volunteer Force who were involved in the drugs trade.

Police last night revisited the scene of his shooting on the Tandragee Road and carried out inquiries around the Carnegie Inn where O'Hagan and his wife, Marie, were drinking.

Mr Patterson said: "We have been carrying out vehicle stops at the junction of New Line and Glenavon Lane, and we are interested in acquiring information about two vehicles.

"The first is a silver Subaru Impretsa, which we believe the gunmen used in the murder of Martin.

"The second is a silver Ford Orion car which was found in Glenavon Lane shortly after the murder, which we believe may have been left as a possible decoy for the Subaru."
