Police investigating the death threat to former Northern Ireland soccer player Neil Lennon say they have identified the phone box used to issue the threat.

A spokesman said the threat was made at 1.56 p.m. from a phone box in Newtownabbey, Co Antrim, on Wednesday, August 21st. The call was received by the BBC and relayed to the police and then the Northern Irish coaching staff. The caller did not use a recognised code word.

Lennon was due to play in a friendly match against Cyprus in Windsor Park later that evening. However, the 31-year-old pulled out of the match and later announced he would not represent his country again.

His decision came despite a claim today by sources close to the leadership of the Loyalist Volunteer Force insisting the death threat was bogus and did not come from the group.
