WARSAW - The US envoy, Mr Richard Holbrooke, yesterday reassured Poland, which has been shaken by a spy scandal and strong opposition to Nato expansion from Moscow, that its prospects for joining the alliance were unchanged.

"We are steady on course for expansion of the alliance," Mr Holbrooke told reporters after meeting the Polish Foreign Minister, Mr Dariusz Rosati.

During Mr Holbrooke's one day visit yesterday, Poland's new Prime Minister, Mr Wlodzimierz Cimoszewicz, announced that the two ruling parties, after days of tough negotiations, had agreed a new coalition cabinet line up.
