HILDA DUHALDE, the Peronist Party's choice to fight key elections to the Argentine Congress in October, has started her campaign by rejecting comparisons with the much adored, late Eva Peron.

Duhalde, known to most Argentines as "Chiche", has a huge following in her husband's Buenos Aires Province.

Her charity work, helped by a budget from the province of $280 million, triggers comparisons with Evita, though Duhalde has shown none of the glamour or charisma that still inspires mystical devotion to Eva in many Argentines.
