Soccer:St Patrick's Athletic have pledged to take action against any home supporters involved in crowd disturbances after last night's 1-0 FAI Cup semi-final defeat to Shamrock Rovers at Richmond Park.

Pat's were denied a place in the final by Chris Turner's 70th minute strike but ugly scenes after the final whistle marred the evening.

Rovers fans were first on to the pitch, some to congratulate the players but others provoked a response from the home support and there were sporadic violent clashes before stewards and gardaí intervened.

There were no arrests made by gardaí.

"St Patrick’s Athletic is committed to ensuring that Richmond Park is a place where people can enjoy football in a safe, secure and friendly environment," a club statement on the official website read this morning. "A full review of the incidents that occurred at the end of last night’s match is already underway at the club.

"Strong and immediate action will be taken by St Patrick’s Athletic against any home supporters found to be involved in crowd disturbances of any kind on the night."

Both clubs are likely to be fined by the FAI.

There will also be concern over how bottles and other missiles were smuggled into the ground and at the length of time it took gardaí to regain control of the situation.
