A Palestinian guerrilla leader who was a foe of Mr Yasser Arafat was found dead from gunshot wounds in his Baghdad home, Palestinian sources said today.

Militant leader Sabri al-Bana, widely known by his

pseudonym Abu Nidal, was head of the Fatah-The Revolutionary Council group that broke with the Palestine Liberation Organisation in 1974 after saying it was too moderate.

The Palestinian sources confirmed a report in the Palestinian Al-Ayyamnewspaper that said Mr Nidal's death was apparently a suicide and occurred three days ago. He was 65.
