P.J. Mara records believed submitted

Lawyers for the former Government press secretary, Mr P.J

Lawyers for the former Government press secretary, Mr P.J. Mara, are believed to have submitted all his financial records from 1988 to date to the Flood tribunal by yesterday's deadline.

Contacted last night, Mr Mara said he had given the required records to his lawyers last week and believed they had all been presented to the tribunal within the deadline set out by Mr Justice Flood.

The tribunal is investigating an allegation by the cofounder of Century Radio, Mr James Stafford, that Mr Mara and the former minister for communications, Mr Ray Burke, operated a "price list" for the award of commercial broadcasting licences. Mr Mara and Mr Burke deny the allegation, which Mr Stafford accepts is "hearsay".

Last week Mr Justice Flood gave Mr Mara's legal team until yesterday to comply with his order of last December to produce the records. This requires Mr Mara to provide all documents and records relating to his accounts, as well as details of any interest in, or payments from, companies involved in broadcasting.
