London - Opera singer Nottingham-born Constance Shacklock has died aged 86, her family said yesterday

London - Opera singer Nottingham-born Constance Shacklock has died aged 86, her family said yesterday. Mezzo soprano Shacklock was a leading Royal Opera House singer at Covent Garden between 1946 and 1956 and led the crowds at the Last Night Of The Proms for 10 years in a row.

Her voice took her to top opera houses around the world and she was the first British singer to appear in Russia and East Germany after the second World War. She died yesterday at her home in London.
