Omagh gets Red Cross care award

The people of Omagh, Co Tyrone, have been awarded the Red Cross Care in Crisis award

The people of Omagh, Co Tyrone, have been awarded the Red Cross Care in Crisis award. This is the first time a community, rather than individuals or organisations, has received the tribute. The community was honoured for its "strength, selflessness and compassion" after the "Real IRA" bombing in the town in August.

Meanwhile, the UTV personality Gerry Kelly has launched the Give a Day to Omagh campaign. People from all over Ireland and Britain, who contacted local people after the atrocity asking how they could help, are now being invited to spend a day in the town in the run-up to Christmas to support the local community.
